Weekend Stuff

On saturday night we took the kids to the pub for dinner and so we could try out the face-painter I've booked for Jemima's birthday party in November. While the food wasn't that great the kids had a great time and were thrilled with the face-painter, or in this case 'arm-painter'. One of the children who had a turn before Max and Jemima wanted a tattoo so my kids decided that's exactly what they wanted too. In the end it worked out well because they could keep their paintings on their arms until the morning as it was under their pyjama sleeves and wouldn't rub off all over their bedlinen. Luckily they were both happy to have it washed off in the morning.




It was AFL Grand Final weekend in Melbourne and the shop was very quiet on saturday afternoon. So quiet in fact that I closed the shop early and came home. On sunday we had a crop nicknamed 'Football Widow's Revenge'. While there were only 7 of us, we had a fabulous time giggling and laughing and scrapping up a storm. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of girls who love our shop and who like to come and have a good gasbag with us.

It was a brief but welcome distraction for me as my mind has been occupied with thoughts of one of my closest friends who had some very sad news on friday. It's not my news to share so I won't write about it publicly but I hope she knows how much she is loved and that her friends are here when she is ready to lean on us. She is always on my mind and in my heart.

Gadgetry

Oooh, I am SO getting one of these. We had a demo day at work yesterday and Charmaine from Bumblebee Crafts came with the prototype of this little machine. I'm not usually excited about scrapping gadgets, I get excited by paper ranges, but I have been lusting after one of these since Making Memories unveiled it in January. It was supposed to be released in July but they had a few teething problems with the first version so it went back to have some things modified before production began in earnest. They're due to hit the shelves by the end of October. After seeing this little machine in action in person, I've already put my order in. Yay for staff discount!

Been Scrappin'

Did some scrapping today while the kids were at their 'Kinders'. Nothing very exciting , I'm still waiting for that lightning bolt of genius to hit me. I think I need to wear a metal spikey thing on my head to try a encourage it a little bit more.

This is version 2. It's almost identical to the original but somehow still not quite the same.

Would you believe that after being in the shop for less than 24 hours sombody stole my layout? I mean physically removed it from the wall to photograph it and now it's missing. Not happy!

Day Thirty

Well I did it. I set myself the challenge of writing a blog post every day for 30 days and here we are at the final day. Phew! You can all breathe a sigh of relief now. Now more ramblings of mine to endure. I do promise to blog more regularly, probably a couple of times a week. It's been fun actually despite it being hard some days to come up with something to crap on about. I hope it hasn't been too boring.

I'm tired though, not because of the whole blogging thing but because of life in general. I feel like I'm constantly running from one thing to the other and don't seem to have a lot of time for 'me'. I guess I'm not the only one though, we're all in the same boat. I'll admit I am finding it hard working every saturday at the shop. I do love it and I'm very lucky having the opporunity to work in an environment that I love. I just find it hard only have half a weekend with Drew and the kids. By the time I get home from work on saturday half the weekend has gone and I only have one more day before the weekly routine starts again. I can't go away for the weekend. I miss out on social things, I can't just bum around in my jammies for a day, it seems like everything is a rush. I know ... whinge whinge whinge ...

Oh well, time to move onward and upward. I should probably go to bed, we have an early start in the morning.

You never know, I might be back tomorrow!

Day Twenty Eight

Happy Fathers' Day

Andrew is still overseas so we aren't celebreating Fathers' Day for him until next weekend. Poppy is in the UK on holiday with Nana to go and see Nicole, Rob and Jake so he isn't here to celebrate with either. Luckily my Dad is here so the kids and I are going out for lunch with Grandma and Grandad today which will be lovely.

Max has been busy writing Grandad's card this morning. He is obsessed with writing at the moment and the minute he sees me with a pen in my hand he want's to write for me. I might not be ready for him to go to school yet but he's beginning to tell me that he is. *sigh*

The lovely and talented Michelle Kelly came over last night for some scrapping time. It was just what I needed, I get sick of sitting here at night on my own and the mojo doesn't seem to flow very well when I'm listening to weird noises outside. There are SO many new papers in the shop at the moment and Michelle and I have loads of projects to do so it was nice to get some of them underway. She's working with the new Scenic Route 'Sonoma' range which is divine! I can't wait to see how the layout looks when she's finished, it was looking fab when she left last night. I finally got around to doing something with Cosmo Cricket's 'Mr. Campy'. The photos were taken by the very clever Clair Bremner. I'm halfway through another layout with some more Scenic Route so it might make an appearance tomorrow.

Day Twenty Six and Twenty Seven

I know, I'm cheating by posting 2 things at once but I know I won't have much chance to blog tomorrow so I'm posting about 2 things now. It's my Blog and I can do that you know.

Part 1

I was loading some photos onto the computer night as part of what I was going to post for today anyway, and came across a photo that made me catch my breath. It was still on the SD card from having some photos printed a while ago and for some reason I hadn't deleted it. I've cropped it so you see it clearly...

Part 2

When I picked Max up from Kinder yesterday he handed me the usual pile of boxes stuck together to vaguely resemble a construction of some sort and promptly ran off with a couple of friends while I gathered up all his other bits and pieces. To be honest, all I could think of was 'great, more crap to bring home'. It wasn't until his teacher pulled me aside to explain what it was that he had made, that I looked closely at the boxes in my hand. Apparently one of the little boys in Max's group brought in his 2 pet rats in a cage for 'Show and Tell' ( or 'Bring and Brag' as I like to call it). Max was fascinated and apparently decided he wanted to have a pet rat too. *shudder* He made a rat out of cardboard complete with whiskers, a beady little eye, a tail and a sniffy little nose and then made a 2 storey house for him.

I think this will be one to keep.

I do love a good Blog Surf, it's a daily ritual for me like sitting down with the paper and a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. In my case it's a laptop and a Diet Coke. I love following links in other people's posts and discovering new and fabulous sites and Blogs along the way.

I was reading Emily's Blog today and I followed a link she had posted which led me to here and then that led me to here. You have got to check out some of the old advertising posters. They vary between being hysterically funny to seriously scary. Here are a few of my favourites.

I love Etsy

I just bought myself one of these pendants with the kids names on them from this seller.

She has beautiful pieces and they aren't expensive at all. I have a few ideas for Christmas presents for people and I love the idea of supporting hand-made items rather than all the commercial crap we see in the shops.

I've also ordered a little something for Drew for Father's Day but I'd better not post a picture of it because knowing my luck he'll see it!

I'm also going to order an address stamp from this seller but I just need to decide which one. I like both of these ones...
